History of School
In 1899 the monsoon failed throughout the country, so In the year 1900, India experienced a severe drought that was not experienced in the following years. The districts of Vadodara and Gujarat states of Saurashtra were also severely affected. Gujarat received only 177.8 mm of rain instead of the average of 940 mm, resulting in shortage of food grains and fodder. Small farmers, artisans and landless labor were the worst hit. Around twenty million cattle died due to lack of food grains and the poor lived on tree leaves and cow dung, relief efforts by the kings and the British government were inadequate. Kings distributed grain. The caste panchas started a tak khichdi and rotla jamadava kitchens for the poor caste members. Villages became empty as people migrated to cities. According to government statistics, 7,40,376 people died in Mumbai area, moral values collapsed. Theft and robbery increased. In December, 1899, the government started relief works and stopped them in November, 1900. In July, 1900, the relief works employed the highest average of 30,000 people and 6,000 people were distributed in kind. The government spent a total of Rs 4,76,967 on relief. Karchi merchants of Mumbai opened grain shops in their respective villages. The Raja of Kutch provided employment to 49,000 people in relief works and provided free assistance to 5,000 people.
Dholka is the main entrance gate of Saurashtra, In such difficult times, orphans and needy children were brought to Dholka, keeping in mind the need of children to study and stay and their needs were met and a hostel and school was established at Dholka in the year 1902.
